1. Overview

3. Velocity Engineering

The V-280's tiltrotor design represents a significant evolution from the V-22 Osprey. Unlike the V-22, which has engines that rotate with the nacelles, the V-280 features fixed engines mounted on the wingtips, with drive shafts transmitting power to the rotors. Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS): The V-280 includes an advanced HUMS that continuously monitors rotor track and balance, engine performance, transmission health, and structural loads. The system predicts maintenance needs before failures occur, uploading data via satellite for ground-based analysis. This capability reduces maintenance costs and improves aircraft availability.

Defensive Systems: The V-280 incorporates defensive systems for operations in hostile environments. The aircraft includes radar warning receivers, missile warning sensors, and chaff/flare dispensers. 5. Operational Role

Air Assault: The V-280's primary mission is transporting troops to the battlefield. Logistics Support: The V-280's external cargo hook and internal cabin make it ideal for logistics missions. The aircraft can deliver supplies, ammunition, and equipment to forward operating bases, using its speed to complete multiple sorties per day. The 14,000-pound external payload can carry HMMWVs, artillery pieces, and containerized supplies.
